Sosa to the Mets

Mets Rumors & News

No, not that one. According to the AP, the Mets are on the verge of signing free agent pitcher Jorge Sosa to a one-year deal worth around $1.25 million. Sosa is coming off of an atrocious season, splitting time between Atlanta and St. Louis, and going 3-11 with a 5.42 ERA while pitching as both a starter and reliever. The year prior, Sosa had gone 13-3 with a 2.55 ERA. The Mets likely consider Sosa a relatively low-cost risk worth taking as they try to piece together the back end of the rotation. Currently, pitchers John Maine, Oliver Perez, Mike Pelfrey, Phillip Humber, Dave Williams, Jason Vargas, and perhaps even aspiring-starter Aaron Heilman, are all in the mix for the final 3 spots behind veterans Tom Glavine and Orlando Hernandez. The Mets’ ace, Pedro Martinez, is not expected back until after the All-Star break.

Pratt is best known for hitting the 10-inning walk-off homer that propelled the Mets passed the Arizona Diamondbacks and into the 1999 NLCS. Since then, Pratt has suited up for both of the Mets’ archrivals, first the Atlanta Braves, and now the cross-town Yankees.
