The Rangers have acquired center Sean Avery from the LA Kings along with junior prospect John Seymour in exchange for winger Jason Ward, and prospects Marc-Andre Cliche and Jan Marek.

The 26-year-old is not the biggest player out there (5-11, 185 lbs), however he plays a cantakerous style that invariably puts him among the league’s leaders in penalty minutes. The Rangers’ lineup is short of gritty, physical players like Avery, and the team has been desperate to find a 2nd-line pivot all season; however, Avery has a reputation for being a controversial and unlikeable figure, and it remains to be seen how he will fit into the Rangers’ locker room.

Avery has 10 goals and 28 points in 55 games this season. He is a restricted free agent this summer.
