Kidd Sits Out – Is He LA-Bound?

The Nets have announced that Jason Kidd will miss the next two games against the Spurs and Raptors with a strained lower back. Marcus Williams will start in his stead. Kidd’s status for Sunday’s All-Star Game is up in the air.

The news comes on the heels of a report on Sunday from the Post’s Peter Vecsey that the Nets are contemplating moving Kidd and/or Vince Carter before the February 22nd trade deadline, and that the Lakers had offered “a couple first-round draft picks and several expiring contracts” in exchange for Kidd. Chris Mihm, Aaron McKie, Luke Walton, and Smush Parker were all mentioned in the report, as well as the injured Kwame Brown, whose $8 million salary would almost certainly have to be included in a deal for Kidd due to NBA trade restrictions.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano has reiterated his desire for a huge contract, and this time the rhetoric is stronger than ever.

Says Zambrano:

“I’m ready to sign, and I would do my job anyway with the Cubs this year. Whatever happens, I don’t want to know [anything] about a contract during the season. I want to sign with the Cubs before the season starts. If they don’t sign me, sorry, but I must go. That’s what Carlos Zambrano thinks.”

And here’s what else Carlos Zambrano thinks:

“When you’re a great pitcher and have talent, you deserve the money no matter who gives it to you,” he said. “Zito is a great pitcher. Good for him he has that contract, and I think that will help me.

“[Cubs general manager] Jim [Hendry] spent a lot of money. I hope he has more for ‘Big Z.'”

According to the Tribune, Big Z will be seeking a long-term deal with an annual salary of around $18 million per year. Neither …
