Requisite Bernie Update

Yankees Rumors & News

Today George King of the New York Post gives us our fix of Bernie Williams.

Agent Scott Boras on his client’s desire to continue his career:

“Bernie believes in the axiom that you should have to perform poorly before you leave the game. He feels he had a very fine year last year. He feels he can make an important contribution to the Yankees.”

On the possibility of Bernie playing elsewhere:

“At this time, that is not an option due to his history with the Yankees and the Yankees tradition.”

Derek Jeter on the absence of his friend and teammate:

“It hasn’t set in yet because we haven’t been over [at Legends Field] yet. He has been a fixture here since I was in high school. That is going to be the most awkward thing of the spring…I don’t know what the numbers are or the situation, but I wish Bernie was here.”
