Hawks’ Stoudamire Nearly a Knick

Knicks Rumors & News

Via Chris Mannix at

One minor trade I’m told fell through involved Atlanta Hawks guard Salim Stoudamire, who was close to being dealt to the Knicks. Stoudamire became expendable when the Hawks acquired Anthony Johnson from Dallas (a deal that was effectively completed on Wednesday), but they were unable to work out compensation with New York.

Dillon Seeks Release from New England

Giants Rumors & NewsJets Rumors & News

(Doug Benc/Getty Images)Throw one more hat into the ring for potential solutions at running back for both the Giants and Jets. New England Patriots RB Corey Dillon has requested his release from the team according to his agent Steve Feldman via’s John Clayton.

In a recent report in The Boston Globe, Dillon had been contemplating retirement rather than returning to a reduced role with the Pats, where he saw only seven to ten carries a game last season while splitting duties with rookie Laurence Maroney. However according to Feldman, he plans on speaking to teams around the league about their interest in the veteran running back.

What’s Shockey’s Deal?

Giants Rumors & NewsJets Rumors & News

Mike Garafolo in the Star-Ledger takes a look at Miami tight end Greg Olsen, and Rutgers TE Clark Harris, and mentions that the Jets could have an interest in both in the upcoming draft. More significantly, Harris let an interesting tidbit slip concerning Giants TE Jeremy Shockey.

Harris confused a group of New York/New Jersey reporters by saying the Giants told him “they’re unsure what Shockey’s deal is, so they’re looking for somebody.”

When asked about Shockey’s “deal,” Harris said he wasn’t sure what the team meant.

Shockey has battled numerous injuries to his back and ankle over the past three seasons, but it’s unlikely the Giants are looking for a replacement. It’s also possible their representatives at the combine mentioned free-agent TE Visanthe Shiancoe’s uncertain status while Harris thought he heard “Shockey.”

El Duque’s Pain In the Neck

Mets Rumors & News

The diagnosis is in, and it turns out that Orlando “El Duque” Hernandez is afflicted with…arthritis. With all the recent attention given to the age on the Mets roster, it’s an almost comical development. Nevertheless, the Mets have to feel relieved that there is no structural damage, and Hernandez will be on his way back to spring training today. According to GM Omar Minaya, El Duque was administered a cortisone shot to the troubled area at the base of his neck, and reportedly is “feeling much better.” More in Newsday.
