Should Devs Have Rested Brodeur?

Lou Lamoriello was never a favorite in Toronto. Now he is truly the Devil….With the Devils looking ahead to their first-round playoff series against the Tampa Bay Lightning, which opens Thursday night at the Meadowlands, Lamoriello decided to rest [Martin] Brodeur and ignore suggestions from the Leafs and their followers that it would be improper to start a rarely used backup who has been called the Maytag Repairman by the Toronto media.

“Obviously Toronto would want Marty to play,” [backup Scott] Clemmensen said. “You have the best goalie of all time sitting on the bench. I tried to do my best for them (the Leafs), but everybody’s playoff hopes are in their own hands all season.”

Everyone has been concentrating on Clemmensen, but what about the job Wade Dubielewicz has turned in? Many people thought the Islanders were in deep trouble when Rick DiPietro went down, but this guy stepped in and proved to be a great story.
