Via the Journal News‘ John Delcos’ LoHud blog:

Kevin here, with more bad injury news for the Mets: they’ve placed second baseman Jose Valentin on the disabled list with a partial tear in the ACL in his right knee.

According to Valentin, Randolph and Omar Minaya, Valentin will miss 2-4 weeks. I’m not buying it. Valentin missed three months with a torn ACL in 2005 and, after coming back for the Dodgers in September, shut himself down because he was uncomfortable in his knee brace.

I agree. No one comes back from an ACL injury in 2-4 weeks, and certainly not when a tear is involved. It’s a particularly problematic injury for a middle infielder because the ACL undergoes the most strain when the knee pivots. Don’t be surprised if the Mets are forced to move on a long-term replacement – hopefully sooner than later.

According to WFAN, Jose Valentin will join El Duque on the DL, and Ruben Gotay will be promoted from AAA-New Orleans.

MetsBlog relays a report that Valentin has injured his ACL. Mets fan should cross their fingers and pray that the second baseman hasn’t suffered a tear. Surgery to repair an ACL would end Valentin’s season.
