UPDATE: You can listen to the song HERE.
Update 2: It appears Lastings has quite sensibly had the song removed from the label’s website. But feel free to check out L Millz AKA DA Edge on MySpace.

Via the New York Times’ Ben Shpigel:
The Class AAA outfielder Lastings Milledge hopes to have a side career as a producer in the hip-hop industry. His first effort caught the team’s attention — and not in a good way. In a song titled “Bend Ya Knees,” on an album that Milledge produced for a childhood friend, Immanuel Dent (a.k.a. Manny D), Milledge (a.k.a. L Millz) appeared as a guest rapper. Milledge worked hard over the off-season and during spring training to reshape his image, but the organization was not pleased about his latest venture. “We disapprove of the content, language and message of this recording, which does not represent the views of the New York Mets,” the team said in a statement.
It’s a poorly kept secret that the Mets project a future outfield patrolled by Carlos Beltran in center with Carlos Gomez and Fernando Martinez in the corners. Translation: Lastings Milledge = trade bait. While incidents such as this can only hasten Lasting’s departure, a fan has to wonder at what point he begins to sabotage his trade value as well.
