Subway Showdown

Mets Rumors & NewsYankees Rumors & News

New York’s finest weigh in on this weekend’s Subway Series at Shea Stadium.

The New York Post’s Mark Hale:

[Mets catcher Paul] Lo Duca said yesterday Shea should be “a playoff atmosphere.” Billy Wagner said he knows what it will be like. The Mets star closer tried explaining it to Subway neophyte Scott Schoeneweis, attempting to educate him on what to expect.

“There’s nothing better,” Wagner said. “I was telling Schoeneweis, and he’s going, ‘Yeah, well I played in the Cubs and the White Sox,’ and I said, ‘I can’t speak for that, but I said you have no idea the circus that’s going to be here tomorrow.'”

Yankees right fielder Bobby Abreu never has played in the Subway Series.

“I know it will be crazy,” Abreu said. “I want to see how it is [tonight]. I am sure the intensity will be high.”…The Empire State Building will be lit up in both Mets- and Yankees-colored lights this weekend, but the series winner earns its colors alone for Monday. In each of the last …

Farnsworth Not Long for Pinstripes

Yankees Rumors & News

Kyle want a piece of The Rocket next. The Journal News’ Peter Abraham:

Kyle Farnsworth went on a Chicago radio station this morning and criticized Roger Clemens for his “family plan” agreement with the Yankees.

“It might cause some friction … Granted this is going to be his 23rd or 24th year and he can get the opportunity to do that, but still, I think if you’re going to be part of the team you should be there always,” Farnsworth told The Score.

“You win as a team, you lose as a team…I respect what he’s done and I respect him as a person and a player but to be a part of the team you have to be there with the team.”

I suspect a lot of people will laugh these comments off because, after all, who cares what Kyle Farnsworth thinks? However I imagine Kyle is only vocalizing what more than a couple of players are thinking. It remains to be seen what will be more divisive in the clbuhouse: Clemens’s …

Who’s Your Daddy?

Mets Rumors & NewsYankees Rumors & News

Via The Daily News’ Adam Rubin:

He is not expected to be available to the Mets for at least another 2-1/2 months as he recovers from right rotator cuff surgery, but there will be a Pedro Martinez sighting tomorrow night at Shea for the first game of the Subway Series.

“He’s doing great and coming to the game Friday,” one of Martinez’s family members told the Daily News yesterday from the pitcher’s native Dominican Republic.

Fernando Cuza, Martinez’s agent, also told The News he had heard that his client was planning a trip to see his Mets teammates. Martinez has been rehabbing both at the Mets’ Port St. Lucie spring-training complex and in Santo Domingo as he works toward joining the rotation some time after the All-Star break.
