Portland Blazes Trail To Oden

Knicks Rumors & News

The Knicks lucked out on Tuesday night, missing out on their remote chance of snagging the No. 1 pick in this year’s NBA draft and being forced to hand it over to the Chicago Bulls as the final piece to the Eddy Curry deal. Instead, the Knicks were awarded the 9th pick in the draft and will swap the selection in exchange for Chicago’s No. 23.

Meanwhile, the Portland Trail Blazers were the big winners, moving up from sixth to first, and are all but certain to use the selection on 7-foot franchise center Greg Oden. The Seattle Sonics were also big winners, moving up from fifth to second, and will most likely select Texas’ Kevin Durant.

Yankees Rumors & News

“He went in late and kind of threw an elbow. It was a little cheap but no big deal. I’ll remember. I play second base. I’ve got to turn two with the Yankees 19 times a year, so I know now when he’s coming in, my (arm) slot gets dropped to the floor. That’s it.”-Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia

Giambi’s Over the Speed Limit

Yankees Rumors & News

The Daily News nabs the scoop of the week. Via T.J. Quinn:

Jason Giambi failed a Major League Baseball-administered amphetamines test within the last year, which has subjected him to additional drug testing, sources told the Daily News. Giambi tacitly admitted last week that he has used steroids, but he failed to mention that he has been caught using other drugs….Because Giambi failed the test – one report estimated that more than 80 players might have last year – he is subject to six additional tests for one year from the time the positive is confirmed. The larger question is whether Yankee officials – who claimed not to have heard about the failed test – will try to use that information against Giambi as they consider terminating his contract.

For what it’s worth, Jason did his best to shoot down yesterday’s report of a possible trade to the Angels, however you can’t help thinking that the move could be the best thing for everyone involved. Except …

Another DE for “Jurassic” Jets

Jets Rumors & News

Via the Daily News’ Rich Cimini:

Adding to their collection of “thirty-something” defensive linemen, the Jets today announced the signing of former Chiefs DE Eric Hicks.

Four or five years ago, this would’ve been a tremendous signing…But last season, Hicks, 31, dropped off in a big way, managing only nine tackles for the Chiefs….Right now, the Jets have a “Jurassic” defensive line. This offseason, they’ve signed David Bowens (almost 32) and Andre Wadsworth (32), who can play some linebacker, too. GM Mike Tannenbaum has spent a lot of time picking through the scrap heap, as he also signed former Bears first-round bust Michael Haynes. Only 26, Haynes is a mere babe compared to his new linemates.

Remember, the Jets also have Kimo von Oelhoffen (36) and Bobby Hamilton (36). Obviously, they’re not all going to make the team, but there’s still going to be a noticeable shade of gray on the D-line.

Here’s the Kicker

Giants Rumors & News

The Giants have filled their need at kicker, sending a conditional draft choice to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for Lawrence Tynes. Former kicker Jay Feely left Big Blue as a free agent this offseason, signing with the Miami Dolphins.

Tynes made 78.2% (68/87) of his field goal attempts during three seasons with the Chiefs, but according to SI.com, fell out of favor with coach Herm Edwards due to a lack of consistency.
