In today’s paper, Newsday catches up with aspiring rap mogul L Millz a.k.a. DA Edge a.k.a. Lastings Milledge, who angered his Met bosses last month with the release of a profanity-laden rap song.
So what does Millz have to say for himself in the wake of the controversy? Via Newsday’s Jim Baumbach:
The controversial Mets prospect called the flap over his rap music “irrelevant,” insisting that how he performs on the baseball field is “really the only thing that matters.”Asked if he is worried about his standing with the Mets following the rap controversy, he said, “My reputation is fine. Everything is OK. If it’s not, then it’s just something that I’m going to have to deal with and I’ll go from there.”
Ironically, it’s Lastings himself who has become irrelevant. The once-highly-touted outfielder has been out since April after spraining ligaments in his foot, and is still several weeks away from returning to action. Says Milledge:
“Once I get out on the field, it should move quickly.”
He may be right about that. With guys like Carlos Gomez and Ben Johnson blazing passed him on the depth chart, Milledge could be on the move to the first team that offers a sack of baseballs and a pack of Big League Chew.
