Mets General Manager Omar Minaya said yesterday that outfielder Endy Chavez, who is currently on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring, will miss at least another three weeks.
This isn’t great news for a Mets outfield that already has Moises Alou out indefinitely and the slumping “My quad hurts…no it’s fine” Carlos Beltran. Rookie Carlos Gomez and recently recalled Ricky Ledee have been filling in, but Gomez is overmatched and Ledee is marginally serviceable. Neither can continue to fill in long-term.
With no trade rumors or signings in circulation, the hole in left field will be a continuing concern until Alou or Chavez return.
