While the Yankees gained a key victory over a Wild Card rival, they may have lost their All-World third baseman.

Alex Rodriguez injured his left hamstring lunging for the first base bag and collided with Twins’ first baseman Justin Morneau in the sixth inning of last night’s 5-1 win. For now the injury is not believed to be serious, but A-Rod is scheduled for an MRI later today.

Previously this season, Chien-Ming Wang, Mike Mussina, Phil Hughes, and Hideki Matsui all missed extended periods of time with hamstring injuries that the team labeled as “strains.”

For the sake of the scuttling Bombers, they had better hope that lightening hasn’t struck again.
