Thomas Jones update

Jets Rumors & News

Running back Thomas Jones’ injury to his lower leg appears to not be overly serious. At least not serious enough for Coach Eric Mangini to treat any differently than any other “minor” injury.

Via Randy Lange’s blog on the NY Jets website, Mangini had this to say about the injury:

“I can tell you he’s working extremely hard and he’ll back as quickly as he can,” Mangini said at his midday news conference that just concluded. Then Mangini went on: “Thomas has a pretty strong track record. He missed three games in I don’t know how many opportunities. He’s been pretty durable.”

“It’s a consistent approach with all players,” he said. “We try to always do what’s best in those situations and not force somebody back too early, make sure they go through the whole process, work with the doctors, the trainers, go through the rehab process. Then we test them before putting them back on the field. Everybody on the team is important, every person is important, so it’s a consistent approach.”

Mangini did clarify that it …

Yanks Continue Hot Streak

Yankees Rumors & News

The Yankees won again on Sunday. Like you should be surprised. They’re 23-8 since the All-Star break and have won eight of their last nine games. They stand only four games out of first place and are tied for the lead in the wild card.

This weekend marked a stretch of games – excluding their series against Baltimore this week (Mon-Wed) – that will make or break their season. They face the Tigers (8 games), the Angels (3 games) and the Red Sox (3 games) before the month is over. All three teams are playoff contenders. They just completed a three game sweep of the Cleveland Indians, who at the start of the series, sat ahead of the Bombers in the standings.

“I feel like we’re the team…We’ve come full circle,” said Andy Pettitte. “We were just struggling in all aspects of the game a few months ago. It was no fun losing. There’s not a whole lot to complain about right now.”

Lo Duca on the Shelf

Mets Rumors & News

Don’t look for Paul Lo Duca to be behind the plate for the next two weeks. Prior to Sunday’s game the Mets placed Lo Duca on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring. While rest is in Lo Duca’s best interest, since he’ll be more valuable as a healthy catcher in September than a banged up player in the final month of the season, it doesn’t mean he has to be happy about it (via the Times):

“I probably could play through it,” said Lo Duca, who anticipated playing in some rehabilitation games. “That’s not the issue. Willie sat down and they decided they wanted to put me on the D.L. because they don’t want me to keep reinjuring it.”

Manager Willie Randolph had different ideas and felt it best to err on the side of caution.

” “Chavy was supposed to be out, what, a couple weeks?” Randolph said, referring to Endy Chávez, who has been on the disabled list since June 7 with a strained left hamstring. “He’s out …

Jets RB Jones injured

Jets Rumors & News

Thomas Jones

Running back Thomas Jones injured his lower right leg during a non-contact drill yesterday afternoon. Jones moved to make a block but instead fell to the ground after planting his right foot.

As of this morning there are no reports as to the severity of the injury. Jones did return to the practice field but only to stretch and ride the bike on the sideline.

Pete Kendall

Pete Kendall continues to be a smart-aleck with the media. He was asked to play center yesterday and had this to say via Brian Lewis of the New York Post:

“I thought the organization already decided how well I played center,” said Kendall, who hadn’t played there since the last 10 games in 2005. “I have no idea what their plans are. It’s just as likely they want to look at somebody else someplace else. You’ll probably know as soon as I do.”

Sorry to inconvenience you Pete. We understand you are grossly underpaid, but………..
