The Jets finalized a deal today that will send disgruntled and outspoken guard Pete Kendall to the Washington Redskins for an undisclosed draft pick.

The bottom line is the Jets needed to get rid of Kendall and his negative attitude before the season starts. They probably would have just released him if necessary, the fact that they got something in return for him is a bonus.

Apparently Eric Mangini and Kendall parted on good terms after reportedly not speaking to each other the entire camp. Via Randy Lange on the NY Jets website, Mangini had this to say about their first and last conversation of the pre-season:

“I wished him well and he thanked me,” Mangini said. “It was a really good, positive conversation. … I’ve said a lot of times I did value the contributions Pete made. He did a lot of good work last year. Talking to him last night, I thanked him for those contributions and wished him well.”

Kendall could move into the starting OG position on the Redskins and join former Jet, Randy Thomas, who currently starts at right guard. Former Jet Jason Fabini is also with the Redskins and could see playing time on the offensive line.
