Wanted: 8th Inning Reliever

Mets Rumors & News

Two days after we suggested a rather drastic measure to improve the Met bullpen, the relief corp went out last night and demonstrated the sort of desperate times that may lie ahead for the Mets.

Starter John Maine – perhaps destined for the pen himself – pitched six solid innings before departing with a mild blister, handing the ball and a 3-1 lead to his relievers. And while Jorge Sosa pitched effectively in the 7th once again, the 8th inning did not run as smoothly. The trouble began when Aaron Heilman issued a 2-out walk to Edgar Renteria, followed by a line drive single to Mark Teixeira that placed runners on the corners. Enter Pedro Feliciano, who promptly walked Brian McCann – the lone batter for whom he was inserted to face. And thus, the Mets found themselves in a 2-out, bases loaded jam, and were forced to call on Guillermo Mota to face righty Jeff Francoeur. Let’s just say, it didn’t go …

Report: Pennington Will Not Play On Sunday

Jets Rumors & News

The Star Ledger reported this morning that Chad Pennington will not play on Sunday and will be replaced by Kellen Clemens at QB. Of course, this report was by three people who spoke on condition of anonymity but are apparently very close to the medical situation.

Eric Mangini and Pennington continue to recite the company line of it being day to day, etc., etc.

At his press conference, Pennington had this to say:

“It’s just a day-to-day process and I’m working extremely hard around the clock to do everything I can to prepare myself to play,” Pennington said. “I’m just taking it day by day and seeing how much progress I make each day.”

There are reports confirming Chad still isn’t well enough to participate in any part of practice other than stretching ~ and he does that with an air boot to protect his ankle. He can’t even participate in all of the warm-up drills, running around pads instead of going over them. I can’t imagine he’ll be ready to scramble (and if last week …

Giants: Quarterback Situation Is No Joke

Giants Rumors & News

ELI SUCKS!!! Eli is a sissy! He’s afraid of the pass rush!

Eli will never be any good, he’s too quiet and ‘ole sourpuss Manning takes lousy pictures, too!

The Giants have the wrong Manning! Maybe Archie can still pass the ball straight, because Eli can’t!

Eli is a bum! And Ernie Accorsi is an idiot! The Giants should have just drafted Ben Roethlisberger!

It seems like ever since Eli Manning got to New York it has been fashionable to rip him. Over the years I’ve done some of that myself. Everybody’s got an Eli put-down, or a reason why he will just never measure up to the family name.

It seems, in fact, that the only thing more fun than picking on Eli the past couple of seasons has been making fun of his backup, the 285-pound Jared Lorenzen.

He’s the man of many nicknames.

The Hefty Lefty; Battleship Lorenzen; J-Load; The Pillsbury Throwboy; The Portly Pine-Rider. There are probably a dozen other ones I can’t think of right now.

Only, the funny thing is, nobody is laughing …
