Billy Wagner ~ THINK Before You Talk

Mets Rumors & News

Jayded Perspective

When it rains it pours…

On a day filled with negative headlines and “what if’s” for the Mets they get hit with more bad press.  Not from another New York sports columnist or radio host, but from one of their own.

In this week’s issue of New York magazine, there’s an article called The Closer.  The writer, Chris Smith, featured Mets closer Billy Wagner for the piece.  While it is an excellent article and it shines some light on the life of Wagner, it also features some quotes from Wagner taking shots at Mets fans and management.

“If I walk in after a save and this fan’s up there yelling, ‘We love you!’—yeah, you love me today. I blow a save, ‘We hate you!’ Well, you hate me today .”

Since when did Billy Wagner become the most sensitive guy in the league?  In order to pitch in a city like New York, you need …

Flushed Away: Mets Collapse, Crash, Burn

Mets Rumors & News

Despondent. Disgraced. Disgusted. I don’t know where to begin. I don’t know whether this team and this season is even worth any more time invested on my part. There’s no anger that needs to be vented here, just disbelief and disappointment.

There was a time, not too long ago, when a fan could point to the bullpen and rage against those appointed scape goats. But not long after the starting staff’s ever bloating ERA became impossible to ignore. Even then, Met fans could cling to their offense – an everyday lineup that we’d convinced ourselves was the strongest in the NL, and would not fail us down the stretch. Giants: ‘Kudos & Wet Willies’

Giants Rumors & News

As we usually do on Monday’s, let’s review last night’s 16-3 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles ‘Kudos & Wet Willies’ style.

Kudos to …

• Osi Umenyiora: He had an incredible six of the Giants record-tying 12 sacks of Donovan McNabb. Poor Winston Justice. What was Andy Reid thinking, not giving the overmatched Eagles offensive tackle any help against Osi? Thank you, Andy!

• Michael Strahan: Had only one of the Giants’ dozen sacks, but it pushed him past Lawrence Taylor as the team’s all-time sack leader.

• Mathias Kiwanuka: He’s a linebacker! He’s a defensive end! He’s a defensive tackle! It doesn’t matter where he plays, what Kiwanuka really is is a defensive force. Last night, spending huge chunks of time rushing McNabb from tackle, he record three sacks.

• Justin Tuck: Can’t leave out the other member of the Giants sack brigade. Tuck had six tackles and two sacks. By now, it’s obvious this guy is a lot more than a backup defensive end.

• Plaxico Burress: Playing on a gimpy ankle, Burress made a tremendous …
