These aren’t your corporate, uptight New York Yankees

If the New York Yankees have designs on winning a 27th World Series championship this year, perhaps they should order full body armor for the entire roster and coaching staff first.

As vicious as rookie slugger Shelley Duncan can be when he celebrates just about anything, he just might maim somebody during a World Series celebration.

Duncan is but a bit player on this team, a reserve outfielder/first baseman/designated hitter. Yet, he is symbolic of what is new and different about this version of the New York Yankees.

These aren’t the stiff, corporate, business-like, mercenary Yankees of the past several seasons. This is a much younger, happier, more fun-loving and energetic team than the Yankees have fielded in many seasons.

When the Yankees clinched the wild-card berth several of the younger players crowded around Manager Joe Torre during the celebration and chanted “Energy, Energy.” It was fitting, because the youth General Manager Brian Cashman brought into this roster throughout the season brought an energy and an attitude — as well as tons of talent — that …
