Cynthia Rodriguez Has A-Bun in the Oven

Yankees Rumors & News

Via Newsday:

Alex Rodriguez has something to look forward to besides the playoffs. According to People magazine, Rodriguez and his wife, Cynthia, are expecting their second child next spring. The couple has a 2-year-old daughter, Natasha.

Do they make maternity clothes that say “F*** you“?

No Love for Giambi

Yankees Rumors & News

The New York Yankees will take to the field tonight and play game 1 of the American League Division Series against the Cleveland Indians at Jacobs Field tonight.

When the team takes the field in the bottom of the first it will likely be Doug Mientkiewicz and not Jason Giambi manning first base.

Joe Torre has elected to stick with his best defensive option during the playoffs. At least during times he feels it is most necessary and groundball pitcher Chien-Ming Wang will be getting the start tonight so it is expected that Mientkiewicz will be as well.

“Jason is considered more of a DH who could play first base,” Torre said to the NY Post. “Right now, I’m leaning toward Doug. Jason coming off the bench or DH’ing is probably what his role is going to be.”

As for Giambi there is a chance he will not be playing tonight at all as the Yankees face-off against the tough lefty C.C. Sabathia which means Torre might start right-hand …

Rangers Hope To End Cup Drought

Rangers Rumors & News

The New York Rangers begin their quest for the Stanley Cup as they open up the season in Madison Square Garden and they face-off against the Florida Panthers tonight.

When the Rangers take the ice the “obvious” line combos – Gomez/Jagr/Straka and Drury/Shanahan/Avery – will not be taking the ice together, but that is fine with Scott Gomez.

“To Start it off, I like to pass it and (Brendan Shanahan) likes to shoot it,” said Gomez in the NY Daily News.

Just because Gomez and Jaromir Jagr are not skating together to start the season doesn’t mean the pair won’t be together soon. “We’re likely to be making changes on the fly in a number of areas as we get into the season and see what works and what doesn’t,” Rangers coach Tom Renney told the NY Post.

The biggest question that remains unanswered is exactly how will Jagr adapt to not having the playmaker Michael Nylander there to feed him the puck? Chris Drury is not exactly the …

Torre deserves to stay, regardless of playoff outcome

Yankees Rumors & News

The New York Yankees begin their quest for a 27th World Series title tonight in Cleveland. Is this also the beginning of Joe Torre’s final days as Yankees manager?

With Torre’s contract up at the end of the season that, of course, has been the focus of much of the media coverage leading up to tonight’s first pitch.

Let me be clear. I’m a Torre guy. I’ve said this before, and I haven’t changed my opinion. Regardless of the outcome over the next few days or weeks, Torre, 67, deserves to be back next year. And the year after that. And the year after that if he chooses.

Pick on Torre’s bullpen management if you want — and I know many of you want to. But you can’t argue with the results. Four World Series titles, albeit none since 2000, and playoff appearances in all of his 12 seasons. No one is better suited to handle the egos of the Yankees clubhouse, the expectations that surround the team …

Coughlin, players seem to have made their peace

Giants Rumors & News

What is this? Could there be a lovefest breaking out between Coach Tom Coughlin and his New York Giants players?

I don’t know if you saw it, but near the end of Sunday’s domination of the Philadelphia Eagles, the camera panned to Coughlin on the sideline. There, Amani Toomer meandered up to the cold, calculating, distant coach and put an arm around him to congratulate him for a job well done. I was floored when I saw it.

Now comes word from Ernie Palladino’s Giants Journal that Michael Strahan gets along just fine with the coach.

I’m stealing from Ernie here, but here is some of what Strahan said about Coughlin while appearing on Tiki and Ronde Barber’s radio show Tuesday.

“I will say he wants to win. That’s never been a question. So as long as you want to win and you’re not bugging me about my socks and all that other stuff then we can work together. … I don’t have any problem with him whatsoever. Now, if Tiki came in the locker room he’d …

Quite Frankly: Don’t Count Out the 2007 NY Yanks

Yankees Rumors & News

The door has closed on the 2007 regular season, as a new door awaits to be opened…the 2007 MLB Playoffs. Not a lot of people thought that the Yankees would make it, but if you talked to anyone on the Yanks and anyone around them, they’d tell you to just “take it one day at a time.” Sure enough, here we are..October baseball is set to be played once again, and the Yankees are the favorite to take it all.

The 2007 Yankees saw it all get ugly before it got better. Lowlights of the season:

-Yanks used 10 different starting pitchers used in the first 30 games.
-2 starts from Carl Pavano.
-Kei Igawa waste his 46 million in the minors.
-Swept by the Colorado Rockies (who saw them as a threat earlier in the year?)
-Injuries to Hideki Matsui, Johnny Damon, Chein Ming Wang, and Bobby Abreu within the first 2 months lead to inconsistent play, which in turn reflected in the Yankees play and their position in the standings.
-Mariano Rivera had only 11 saves at …
