Yankees Rumors & News

As the Yankees wrap-up their search for the first manager of the post-Torre era they will begin to turn their attention to resigning their potential free-agents.

Among the bigger names of players the Yankees are at risk of losing are Jorge Posada and Mariano Rivera. Andy Pettitte, Alex Rodriguez, and Bobby Abreu are other potential free-agents, however, Pettitte has a player option, Arod can opt-out, and the Yanks hold a team-option for Abreu.

Bringing back Posada, who has been with the team since he was drafted in the 24th round of the 1990 amateur draft, is one of the Yankees biggest priorities right now. A source told the NY Daily News that the Yankees are, “going to be very competitive,” in bringing their 36-year old catcher back and are supposedly set to offer him a three-year deal in the $40 million range.

That might be just an initial offer as the Detroit Tigers just resigned Pudge Rodriguez at $13 million for next year and his numbers are well …

Vilma will NOT Practice Today

Jets Rumors & News

Head Coach Eric Mangini announced during his morning press conference that Jonathan Vilma will not practice today.

Vilma underwent a series of tests yesterday after suffering a knee injury during Sunday’s Bengals’ game.

Mangini borrowed quotes from his early-in-the-season press conferences when Chad Pennington was hurt and said only that they are treating this injury like any other injury and evaluating it every day. In other words, no concrete information is being disclosed.

From Mike Garafolo’s ‘Ledger on Giants’ blog:

“Without question, that credit (for the Giants’ five-game winning streak) has to go to Coach Coughlin,” Feely said. “I’ve talked to a lot of the guys I’m still friends with on the team and to a man, they’ve talked about the changes he’s made. And whether it was because he felt like he didn’t have anything to lose and wanted to try something different, that’s not easy for somebody to do – to change your ways. I think that has really brought that team together.”

Feely didn’t stop gushing about his former coach there.

“If you remember at the end of last year, when we talked, you guys asked me what I thought our problem was on our team and why we struggled the last half of the season and in the playoffs and I said I thought as a …
