Marbury’s Star On Its Way Out Of Town

Knicks Rumors & News

Just this morning, the Daily News’ Frank Isola reported that Stephon Marbury’s day in New York could be numbered, citing “a high-ranking team official.” According to Isola, Isiah Thomas and James Dolan had discussions in recent days on a way to reduce Marbury’s minutes and/or rid the roster of him altogether.

Stories such of this – especially in a city like New York – often come and go. I wish I had a dime for every “anonymous source” and “high-ranking official” that has fueled an inflammatory and frequently fictional headline in the daily rags.

However, in this instance, it appears the Knicks and “Starbury” truly are on a collision course for a messy divorce. Multiple sources are now reporting that Marbury skipped this morning’s practice, and Isiah has told reporters that Mardy Collins will start in Marbury’s place tonight in Phoenix. Thomas, for his part, appears optimistic that Steph will return to the team. Said Zeke:

“It seems like he and I go …

Posada Back in Pinstripes Despite Mets’ Wine & Dine

Mets Rumors & NewsYankees Rumors & News

For weeks the buzz around catcher Jorge Posada’s free agency had been that the Yankees hoped to wrap the Yankee lifer up to the tune of a three-year deal before Monday night’s free agent deadline, at which time multiple teams – including the Mets – were expected to enter the fray and elevate the price tag. Evidently Yankee brass blinked, unwilling to take any chances on the open market, and instead agreeing to a four-year, $52.4 million contract. Via the Daily News’ Mark Feinsand:

The deal comes just hours before other teams – most notably the Mets – could talk dollars with Posada. Mets GM Omar Minaya wined and dined Posada, his wife and his agents during a lengthy lunch at Le Cirque (business must be good in Flushing) yesterday, taking one last stab at making sure the catcher would make it to tomorrow, when teams can make official offers.

But once the Yankees offered Posada the four-year pact, it was practically a done deal. Posada’s first …

Ho Hum, Was it a Bye Week for the Jets?

Jets Rumors & News

Is it just me, or did anybody else not care that this past weekend was a bye week for the Jets? In fact, it was rather nice to not care that it was Sunday and have to stress-out about our beloved Gang Green. I wore red and black instead of green and white for the first time since August. And didn’t care.

I can’t remember a recent season when I cared so little about the fact that there was no Jets’ game, or when the next one would be for that matter.

Or when I cared even less what went on with the team during the break.

And I guess I’m not alone. I looked on the NY Post website last night, and before this morning, the last column about the Jets was written on November 8th. That tells you how interested the local media is at this point as well. Bye or not, something tells me if the Jets were even just 4-5 with a glimmer of hope, the media would find a story angle to write about each …

Giants Rumors & News

The New York Giants never should have traded for Eli Manning.

That is not to say Eli is a bad player. He’s not. He’s an average to above-average NFL quarterback. With the right players around him a team can win.

After four years, though, I have seen enough with Eli to believe he will never justify being the No. 1 pick in the 2004 draft.

By extension, he will never justify the king’s ransom then-Giants General Manager Ernie Accorsi paid to get him from the San Diego Chargers.

When Accorsi looked at Eli he had visions of Johnny Unitas, visions that Eli would be the next unforgettable NFL quarterback. So, he gave up the Giants No. 1 pick (4th overall), which was quarterback Philip Rivers, a 2005 first-round pick the Chargers used to select all-world linebacker Shawne Merriman, a 2004 third-round pick (San diego selected kicker Nate Kaeding) and a 2005 fifth-round pick.

The Giants would have been better off to simply draft Roethlisberger with that No. 4 pick, and …
