matsui.jpgOver at his LoHud Yankee Blog, Journal News beat writer Peter Abraham informs us that when questioned by the Japanese media whether Hideki Matsui could perhaps be traded this offseason, Yankees GM Brian Cashman offered a “no comment.” Very interesting.

With just two years and $26 million remaining on Godzilla’s deal, Matsui could be extremely appealing to a team like the Giants, who are desperate for a bat. According to Abraham, the Giants are interested, and perhaps would consider moving pitcher Noah Lowry in exchange for Matsui and a minor prospect.

Buster Olney alluded to this same report earlier today on ESPN.com.

Personally, I think Noah Lowry would get ripped apart in the American League, but what do I know? In my mind, the move makes more sense if Melky Cabrera is on his way to Minnesota, and the Yanks are looking for a replacement such as Randy Winn or Dave Roberts. Johnny Damon‘s eroding defensive skills proved a major stumbling point for the Bombers in the early months of the ’07 season, and they can’t be anxious to throw him back in that role for 2008.
