Rangers Win 4-0 After Shake-Up

Rangers Rumors & News

The Rangers beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-0 Tuesday night when Jaromir Jagr’s line scored three goals and had two assists after being shaken up before the game.

For most of this season Jagr has skated with a rookie centerman, Brandon Dubinsky, despite the Rangers spending over $85 million on a pair of all-star pivots. Jagr was paired with him after brief experiments with Scott Gomez and Chris Drury failed to achieve immediate results.

Since Jagr’s instant positive reaction to Dubinsky head coach Tom Renney has been reluctant to split the pair, but both players have been slumping lately and it was obvious to everyone that something needed to change. Now Jagr is back to being paired with Gomez and is flanked by Martin Straka.

That was just one of the moves the Rangers have made this week in an attempt to shake things up after going 1-4-1 over the past six games. Drury has been moved on a line with Brendan Shanahan and rookie Nigel Dawes, who was …

3 Jets Named Pro Bowl Alternates

Jets Rumors & News

With only three wins there wasn’t much hope of any Jets heading to Hawaii in February. The Jets only chance was kick returner Leon Washington.

Washington is the first alternate at kick returner behind Cleveland’s Joshua Cribbs.

Kerry Rhodes is the third alternate at safety. The three safeties on the AFC roster are starters Ed Reed of Baltimore and Bob Sanders of Indianapolis and reserve Troy Polamalu of Pittsburgh.

Nick Mangold is the third alternate at center. The conference’s two centers are starter Jeff Saturday of the Colts and backup Dan Koppen of the Patriots.

Simon Faces Discipline…Again

Islanders Rumors & News

Islanders forward Chris Simon is up to his crazy shenanigans again. And by “crazy” I of course mean “psychotic”, and by “shenanigans” I mean “attempted manslaughter”. This time, Simon is facing disciplinary action for attempting to stomp on Pittsburgh’s Jarkko Ruutu with his skate blade. The Isles have dismissed Simon from the team in order to seek counseling.

When the NHL makes its ruling today, it will mark the seventh suspension of Simon’s illustrious career. You’ll recall most recently Simon received a 25-game ban for taking a tomahawk chop at Ryan Hollweg’s head during a Rangers-islanders game last March.

Clemens or Pennington? Don’t Ask Mangini

Jets Rumors & News

Chad Pennington came in and played admirably in place of the injured Kellen Clemens on Saturday in Foxborough. It was later learned that Clemens could have returned, but Eric Mangini chose to stick with Pennington in a game that was close until the very end.

One can only assume that Mangini felt Pennington gave his team the best chance to hand the Patriots their first loss of the season. Although it didn’t happen, what did come out of Pennington’s valiant effort is a swirling QB controversy. Who will start on Sunday in Tennessee? Who should start? And why?

Mangini was asked several times who his starter will be in the Monday press conference, and in typical Mangini-fashion, like a Rockette at Radio City, danced around the question. Via Mark Cannizzaro’s column in the NY Post:

“We’ve got to see where Kellen is in terms of the injury,” Mangini said. “I think Kellen has done a lot of good things and there’s a lot of things that he’s still growing into and learning about with experience.

“On the other side, I …
