Back in November, HSNY columnist Ed Valentine wrote that Yankees great Goose Gossage was long overdue for election to the Hall of Fame. This year – his ninth on the ballot – in a week class of eligible candidates, the Hall finally agreed.
Rich “Goose” Gossage was elected to the Hall of Fame today, receiving a vote on 85.8 percent of the ballots after missing the cut by just 21 votes last year. Boston Red Sox outfielder Jim Rice fell shy by 16 votes, but will likely see his induction next year – his 15th and final year of eligibility.
