60.jpgAre the New York Giants a dirty football team?

If you listen to New England’s Rodney Harrison, and various members of the Green Bay Packers, the answer is yes.

From Harrison:

“I’m going to tell you, we saw it on film,” Harrison said after facing the Giants in the regular-season finale. “It wasn’t no secret. They push, they hit late, they come at you and try to take you out. That’s the way they play.”

As far as Harrison is concerned, he’s been voted dirtiest player in the league twice in a player poll conducted by Sports Illustrated, so anything he has to say on the matter is pretty much ridiculous.

Of more immediate interest, the Packers are saying the same thing.

“That’s how they play,” said Packers defensive tackle Ryan Pickett. “They do a little extra stuff after the whistle, things like that. It’s a part of football, but they seem to do a little extra. You’ve got to keep your eyes on them. We just have to take it to them, not sit back and wait, because they get you on fouls and things like that. It’s stuff we’ve seen all year, but they do it as a group.”

The Giants are dirty? I have seen Antonio Pierce take a couple of late, uncalled for shots at people this season, but I’ve never heard that before.

Personally, I think it’s all psychological warfare aimed at maybe taking an edge off the Giants’ physical style.
