Mets Rumors & NewsYankees Rumors & News

Big news in Yanks-Sox Land. Tony Massarotti of the Boston Herald is reporting that “right-hander Curt Schilling has a significant shoulder injury that could end the veteran’s season and is causing tension and friction between the player and the team.”

According to the report, the injury suffered is believed to be a torn rotator cuff and/or labrum, and the sides could quite possibly be squabbling over the next course of action, in addition to any disagreement over whether or not the hefty hurler’s deal can be voided. Schilling signed a one-year, $8 million contract with Boston this offseason.

As Anthony De Rosa points out on Hot Foot, the Mets are fortunate the Johan Santana deal got done when it did. You would think that the Sox would have at least taken another look at the former-Twin had this news come to light earlier. Meanwhile, fans in Minnesota can resume kicking themselves.

Spagnuolo Gets Giant Raise

Giants Rumors & News

[UPDATE: Spagnuolo is no longer a candidate for the Redskins’ job. ESPN says Spags will get a three-year deal from the Giants at $2 million per year. Hooray!]

The big news to follow right now for your Super Bowl champion New York Giants (I love writing those words) is, of course, whether or not defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will end up as head coach of the Washington Redskins.

Newsday reports that while Spagnuolo and Redskins’ owner Daniel Snyder met all day Tuesday the Giants have made Spagnuolo an offer that would place him among the highest-paid coordinators in the league.

The New York Daily News adds that the one thing the Giants will not do to keep Spagnuolo is promise him that he would be Coughlin’s successor as Giants’ head coach when the time comes.

The New York Post adds that should Spagnuolo decide to leave there are candidates to replace him on the current Giants’ coaching staff.

When this whole process started, I expected Spags …

Piano Man Confirmed For Final Concert @ Shea

Mets Rumors & News

For a few months now the Mets have been touting “The Last Play at Shea,” a concert event at Shea Stadium that would mark the final musical performance at the stadium before it is demolished following the 2008 season. Today the team is expected to confirm the poorly-kept secret that the mystery musician will be none other than Long Island’s own Billy Joel. According to the Daily News, the concert is “expected to be held July 16, the day after the All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium.”

Pedro Martinez Cockfight | Video Removed

Mets Rumors & News

UPDATE: Here’s the full video.
—————–

Perhaps worried that the Mets had been getting too much positive press lately, Pedro Martinez has made headlines today for a video posted on YouTube showing Pedro and Hall of Famer Juan Marichal participating in a cockfight. Martinez and Marichal served as honorary “soltadores” for the bout, each releasing a rooster into the field of combat. The video was taken in the Domincan Republic, where the “sport” is both legal and popular. According to the AP report, it appeared as if Little Pedro was killed in the match.

Naturally if you’re looking for the video, you can no longer find it since YouTube has removed it due to violation of their terms of use. If you’re a Mets fan, this is probably for the best. I expect this story will blow over quickly so long as the video remains unavailable.
