Perhaps worried that the Mets had been getting too much positive press lately, Pedro Martinez has made headlines today for a video posted on YouTube showing Pedro and Hall of Famer Juan Marichal participating in a cockfight. Martinez and Marichal served as honorary “soltadores” for the bout, each releasing a rooster into the field of combat. The video was taken in the Domincan Republic, where the “sport” is both legal and popular. According to the AP report, it appeared as if Little Pedro was killed in the match.
Naturally if you’re looking for the video, you can no longer find it since YouTube has removed it due to violation of their terms of use. If you’re a Mets fan, this is probably for the best. I expect this story will blow over quickly so long as the video remains unavailable.
