faneca.jpgAccording to SI’s Peter King, the Jets plan to pursue Pittsburgh Steelers 31-year-old guard Alan Faneca. According to the same report, the Jets do not currently plan to go after Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel, as had widely been rumored and assumed.

Last week, JetsCentral relayed a report from the Miami Herald in which it was reported that Bill Parcells had advised the Jets’ brain trust to sign Faneca last year, meaning you can pretty much mark it down that the new Executive Vice President of Football Operations for the Fish will be competing with Team Tangini for the veteran lineman’s services. Via the Miami Herarld:

Parcells told the Jets that taking Faneca would bring stability to their offensive line and help turn young tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson and young center Nick Mangold into better players. So now I think Parcells will take his own advice because the Dolphins need a fine guard to bring stability to their young center Samson Satele and their left tackle (whoever that will be).

Writes Gary Grund of JetsCentral:

With no premier 3-4 pass rushers available, the Jets should look to give Faneca every penny he deserves. I can’t stress enough what Faneca would mean to this offensive line.
