Well that didn’t take long after all! ESPN’s Michael Smith reports that the sides have agreed in principle, and Faneca is expected to travel to New York this weekend to finalize the deal. Way to go Team Tangini! …

Unless something strange happens, the Jets will sign Steelers LG Alan Faneca within the next day or two.

According to JetsCentral, WFAN has reported that Gang Green’s offer is a 4-year, $32 million contract with $20 million in guarantees.

It’s the guaranteed money more than anything else that likely makes this offer too good for Faneca to pass up.

As we told you earlier in the week, the Dolphins were also expected to be in play for Faneca, as it was Fish Executive VP of Football Operations Bill Parcells who initially advised the Jets’ brain trust to acquire the left guard last season. However with Miami agreeing to a five-year, $25 million contract with free agent guard Justin Smiley, this appears to have turned this into a one-horse race.

Kudos to owner Woody Johnson for opening up the pocketbook.
