update @ 7:22am 3/1…
So the terms of the Jonathan Vilma trade are a little bit different than had been reported and a bit better for the Jets. It sure would help if they announced the details of these transactions when they made them. In any event, here’re the details, via JetsCentral: “The Jets will receive a 4th-round draft choice in this years draft. If Vilma achieves playing-time incentives and signs an extension with the Saints, the Jets would receive a second- or third-round pick in 2009. In that case, the Jets would send their fourth-rounder in ‘09 to the Saints so they could recoup this year’s fourth rounder.” …
update @ 1:38pm…
According to ESPN.com, the pick is believed to be a fourth-rounder that could upgrade to a third-rounder based on performance…
Yesterday the Daily News’ Rich Cimini informed us that the New Orleans Saints’ interest in Jets linebacker Jonathan Vilma had “cooled.” So much of that.
The Jets have traded Vilma to New Orleans for a conditional draft pick in the 2009 Draft.
Given Vilma’s injury status, the pick is likely tied to Vilma’s production on the field next season.
And so, just like that, a franchise player departs. So long, Jonathan.
