I’d like to personally extend my gratitude to Hank Steinbrenner, who seems to be embracing his role as newly-annoited Sith lord of the Yankee Evil Empire, single-handedly breathing life into a rivalry that’s been pretty stale since the Rebel Alliance overcame a four-zilch deficit in 2004 and went on to capture their first World Series championship in 86 years.

It seems like eons ago that Pedro Martinez and Don Zimmer went toe-to-toe, or that Alex Rodriguez got a face full of leather courtesy of Jason Varitek. Hell, Jeff Nelson and Karim Garcia faced criminal charges for tussling with a Sox groundskeeper in 2003. Those were the days.

Evidently, Hammerin’ Hank misses them as well. He’s doing his best to reinvigorate things, and perhaps light a fire under a Yankee squad that has been utterly dorment in the postseason in the ’04 upset. Via the New York Times’ Play Magazine:

Mets Rumors & News

Well baseball has returned, but so have the injuries.  The Mets are no strangers to players missing time, and they’ve been bitten by the injury bug again, but at least now it’s only Spring Training.

Carlos Delgado had an MRI on his aching hip yesterday, and results were negative.  Delgado has been diagnosed with  “impingement of the right hip,” and is considered day-to-day.  This is an injury Mets fans need to watch as at 35, Carlos isn’t getting any younger. 

Ryan Church and Marlon Anderson collided in yesterday’s game against the Dodgers.  The collision was pretty gruesome and initally the worst was feared, but it’s better than expected.  Anderson was diagnosed with a bruised sternum, and is listed as day-to-day.  Church wasn’t as lucky, as he wound up with a Grade 2 concussion.  Church will miss at least two weeks, but could still be ready for Opening Day.  A concussion is a funny injury when it comes to healing, so if Church isn’t ready for Opening Day, Endy Chavez or Angel Pagan will …
