Avery, Rangers Break Off Negotiations

You gotta love Larry Brooks. Need a reason? Take the intro to his column today concerning the halt of contract talks between the Rangers and winger Sean Avery:

Sean Avery will be able to find another team that will meet his price this summer if the Rangers won’t. The fans in the Garden blue seats who have been notified they will have to pay five times their regular-season per-game price for the Stanley Cup Finals, don’t have the same kind of option on their take-it-or-leave-it from the Garden.

However, my affinity for Brooks aside, I might have to quarrel with his premise a bit if his report that Avery is seeking a three- or four-year deal for at least $3.75 million per is accurate.

Eli or Ben? Which QB would you rather have?

Eli Manning or Ben Roethlisberger? Given your choice, which quarterback would you build your franchise around for the next decade?

Their careers are indelibly linked. Eli, the No. 1 pick in 2004 who was traded to our Super Bowl champion Giants. Roethlisberger, whom the Giants could have selected, was taken later by Pittsburgh.

After four years, which guy would you rather have? In truth, this has worked out well for both teams. Both quarterbacks have Super Bowl rings, both have had some rough patches, but both appear headed for long-term stardom.

Yet, the question — which one would you rather have? I got to thinking about this because of the 8-year, $102 million contract Roethlisberger just agreed to. Oh, and because Mike & Mike were debating this very topic on ESPN Radio Monday morning.
