alou.jpgMets geriatric Moises Alou will miss four-to-six weeks following surgery to correct a hernia.

Earlier today, the Mets announced that Alou had traveled to New York to have team doctors examine a “groin injury.” One would have to think the diagnosis of a hernia is just about your worst case scenario.

As MetsBlog’s D.J. Short aptly states, “if you are somehow surprised by this, you haven’t been around very long…”

Alou, at age 41, remains a fearsome hitter, however, he simply is never healthy. At the rate the Mets are going, it seems the hot-hitting Angel Pagan is a lock to break camp with the big club, however, would anyone be surprised to see Fernando Martinez crack the opening day roster as well?

Truly a miserable start for the 2008 Mets.
