When Ruben Gotay hurt his ankle on Monday, the initial thought is that it was a fracture. After an x-ray was done, which came back negative, doctors scheduled an MRI because of irregularity in his bone. The MRI also came up negative, it was determined the irregularity was from a prior injury.
The Mets still aren’t convinced.
Yesterday, they sent the results to New York to be reviewed. Odds are the results will still come back negative, but you can’t fault the Mets erring on the side of caution when it comes to their utility infielder.
Gotay is listed as day-to-day, but depending on the severity of the sprain, he could miss extended time. Health definitely hasn’t been in the Mets corner this spring. Add Gotay to the list of Mets (Endy Chavez, Luis Castillo, Carlos Delgado, Michael Abreu, Marlon Anderson, and Ryan Church), who are currently missing times because of injuries.
Sure, the Mets are banged up right now, but we’re still almost four weeks from Opening Day, so I wouldn’t be too alarmed. There’s plenty of time for the team to get healthy before the season starts.

don’t forget Carlos Beltran, Damion Easley, and Luis Castillo, none of whom who have appeared in a spring training game yet, plus brian schneider, who hasn’t played since tweaking a hammy last week
