You really have to wonder what Ted Nolan was thinking starting Wade Dubielewicz after a mediocre performance on Tuesday, in which he blew a two goal lead. However, let us not neglect the fact that Henrik Lundqvist got his groove back tonight, after a similarly painstaking performance at MSG two nights ago. He could not have been more on top of his game as he stopped 26 of 27 shots faced. It didn’t hurt that he got a great deal of support right out of the gate from Brendan Shanahan, who scored through the five-hole on a beautiful breakout pass from Nigel Dawes.
The truth is Henrik Lundqvist showed everyone why he’s considered Rangers’ royalty tonight. His performance in the second period kept the Rangers in the game. In fact, anything less could have seen them walk away from this home and home with a single point. Despite this sluggish second period that saw the Rangers outshot 14-5, they were able to bounce back in the third thanks to goals by Scott Gomez and an empty netter by Sean Avery, who had both his twelfth and thirteenth goals of the season tonight.
With their 8th win in 10 games THE RANGERS ARE CLOSING IN ON THE CONFERENCE LEAD. Yes, that’s correct, the Rangers are four points away from what should rightfully be theirs. Lets not kid ourselves, now that the Rangers have become the offensive powerhouse that they were supposed to be some 60 odd games ago, I don’t think anyone would be the least bit surprised if they emerge as the Eastern Conference victor.

I think calling Dubie’s performance on Tuesday mediocre is inaccurate. He made a handful of great saves, not to mention the shootout. Lets wait a few games to see in Henry is back in the groove, he let up 3 goals on 18 shots on Tuesday. One good performance does not mean he is back….yet
i agree. the isles probably should’ve gone back to their number one, but i don’t think the decision decided the game. and dubielewicz carried the team on tuesday. he’s definitely one of the best backups in the league (no, ranger fans, it isn’t stephen valliquette).
Dipi will be back between the pipes for an even bigger matchup against Philly, so we’ll soon see whether or not last night truly buried this team for good.
