joba5.jpgWith Yankee starters Andy Pettitte, Chien-Ming Wang, Phil Hughes, Ian Kennedy, and Mike Mussina all having reasonably healthy and productive springs, the time has come to end the Joba The Starter charade.

Joba Chamberlain will pitch in relief tomorrow against Toronto and again on Saturday, according to manager Joe Girardi. Girardi reiterated that the organization continues to view Joba as a starter in the future, and that the pitcher will start in the bullpen largely to limit his innings this season.

The team expects Chamberlain to pitch the second half of the year as a starter, which is consistent with a report in the Post last month that stated that the Yankees planned to send Joba to the minors around June in order to stretch him out over a 3-4 week period before returning him to the majors.
