Ex-Met Bannister Shuts Down Tigers

What a difference a day makes.
Just 24 hours after celebrating Omar Minaya‘s offseason acquisition of Johan Santana, the GM is now facing a giant hole in his rotation following the injury to Pedro Martinez.
That sure was a quick honeymoon.
And now that Mets fans have been dealt their bitter taste of reality, I feel obligated to point out that Kansas City’s Brian Bannister pitched brilliantly in Detroit this afternoon, mowing down the Tigers hitters to the tune of 7.0 IP, 2 H, 4 K.
If you recall, Bannister was shipped to the Royals prior to last season in exchange for reliever Ambiorix Burgos, who did his best Jorge Julio imitation upon arriving from Kansas City, before being demoted to AAA and undergoing Tommy John surgery.
