The Mets are categorizing Pedro Martinez’s injured hamstring as a “mild strain.” The veteran right-hander is expected to miss 4-6 weeks, though don’t be surprised if it’s closer to two months.
Nelson Figueroa has been called up from AAA New Orleans, though it doesn’t seem the team will require a 5th starter until the second time around the rotation. Of more important note, the injury means Mike Pelfrey is thrust into the role of No. 4 starter while Oliver Perez now gets the start for the final home opener at Shea next Tuesday.
