Hillen Joins Cast of Youngsters

Islanders Rumors & News

Jack Hillen six days ago was playing in the NCAA West Regional representing Colorado College. Last night, Hillen jumped in with both feet into one of the most heated rivalries in the NHL: Islanders vs. Rangers.

Hillen will not be confused with a heavyweight anytime soon. Standing at 5-11 and weighing 200 pounds, Hillen is more of an offensive minded defensemen. While playing for Colorado, Hillen notched 37 points(31 on assists)which lead all Division-1 defensemen.

After last nights 3-0 loss to the Rangers, Newsdays Greg Logan caught up with Coach Ted Nolan and asked what he thought of Hillen’s debut:

“He handled himself fairly well, but he definitely needs some seasoning before he’s ready for prime time,” Nolan said. “But we’re not going to judge a kid too heavily throwing him from college hockey into a game against the Rangers. That’s too unfair. But he looks like he has a good upside to him.”

Logan also spoke to Captain Bill Guerin:

“Jack played as well as anybody I’ve ever seen in their first game, especially against your …

Rangers Clinch, Eye Home Ice

Rangers Rumors & News

It’s a day of celebration for Ranger fans. After clinching their third-straight playoff berth last night at Nassau Coliseum, the Rangers need just four more consecutive postseason appearances to match the seven-year drought that proceeded the NHL lockout.

Sorry, had to throw that in there – gotta keep those fat cats on notice!

Even now the team isn’t exactly lighting up the scoresheet, and their powerplay, a pair of tallies last night notwithstanding, remains among the league’s worst. Nevertheless, on the 80th game of the season, the Blueshirts finally managed to separate themselves from the pack, and with two games remaining, they are faced with an opportunity to keep climbing.

Kiper vs. McShay — battle of the draft experts

Giants Rumors & News

I got a kick out of comparing the most recent mock drafts of ESPN draft experts Todd McShay and Mel Kiper.

McShay’s mock has the Giants taking Tennessee linebacker Jerod Mayo in the first round and Arkansas State safety Tyrell Johnson in the second.

Kiper’s mock has the Giants taking Johnson IN THE FIRST ROUND.

How can the two ESPN analysts differ so drastically?

Well, the Serious Sports News Network has a satirical look at the battle between the two ESPN experts.

After years of bad blood, Kiper and McShay will finally have a chance to settle their beef man-to-man. SSNN has learned that the two competitors will square off in a mixed martial arts-style match, to take place in an octagon that will be specially built outside the ESPN offices in Bristol, Conn.

For his part, Kiper isn’t fretting about the possibility of McShay doing much damage. “I’ve seen a lot of tape of Todd, and I don’t think he’s a legit MMA prospect. He only put up 2 reps on the …
