El Duque Out Indefinately

duque15.jpgYesterday Gozer provided an in injury update and said that Orlando Hernandez was going to New York for an MRI to find the root of the problem with his injured foot.  While the results have not been published, things are not looking good.

Duque is out indefinately with a strained tendon in his right foot.  He will wear a boot on it for the next two weeks and be re-evaluated then.  Hopefully after two weeks an improvement will be found.  If not, another surgery will be on the horizon, effectively ended the 42-year old’s career.

While Duque and Pedro Martinez are on the DL, the Mets are going to be relying on Mike Pelfrey and Nelson Figueroa to fill out the back of the rotation.  Figueroa will make his debut tomorrow against the Brewers.  If Pelfrey can continue to pitch how he did against the Phillies, it will ease some of the worry for the Amazin’s.
