Rain can’t stop the Yankees as they avoided a sweep at the hands of the Royals with a 6-1 victory Thursday night. The Bombers hit 3 home runs as they welcomed Jorge Posada back into the lineup Thursday night, albeit as the DH.

He’s not going back behind the plate because of a sore shoulder, but that doesn’t mean he can’t rake. Posada went 2-for-4 from the cleanup spot with a home run and 2 runs scored.

Posada’s bat was certainly welcome, but Jose Molina has done a great job filling in behind the plate. Molina leads the team with four doubles this season with a healthy .318 batting average.

Derek Jeter’s replacement has been doing a good job as well. Alberto Gonzalez flashed some leather in the 2 games he has played in place of the Captain. He has also held his own with the bat and is 2-for-6 over two games.

AROD

Alex Rodriguez also had an impressive game. He went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in the ninth and also picked up another RBI in the fifth on a fielder’s choice. In doing that he tied Bobby Murcer for 19th among the all-time Yankee home run leaders with 175. He also passed Mickey Mantle for 46th among MLB’s career RBI leaders with 1510. Arod is just 787 RBI’s behind the all-time leader Hank Aaron.

After the game Andy Pettitte said he “felt terrible.” But obviously he felt good enough to throw 6.2 innings allowing only 1 run for his first win of the season. That win moved him past Mel Stottlemyre into sixth place on the Yankees all-time wins list with 165.
