Reyes is Day-to-Day

reyes-slides.jpgWhen Jose Reyes left last night’s game against the Brewers the worst was feared.  In the fourth inning the all-star shortstop came up a little limp after trying to beat out a double play and was immediately removed.  He was initially diagnosed with a mild strain and was scheduled for an MRI.

He had an MRI today, and the results confirmed the initial diagnosis.  Reyes wil spotted with a soft brace on his leg, and will ride the pine while his hamstring heals.  He missed today’s loss to the Brewers and at the very least will miss tomorrow’s rubber game.  Damon Easley , who got the start today, will fill in for Reyes until he can return.

According to Willie Randolph, Reyes is day-to-day, an will hopefully be available for Tuesday’s game against the Nationals.

“I think it’s just a mild strain, so that’s good,” Randolph said. “Hopefully we’ll just let it calm down a little bit, too, and get him going. It would have been a little different if he pulled up or had a grab. But he said he’s been a little sore for a while.”

Reyes is no stranger to hamstring injuries.  In 2004 he missed over two months with a more severe strain.  Given his history, there’s no need to rush him back into the lineup.  He’ll definately be missed, but having him miss some games now and fully heal is better then his hamstring nagging him all season long.
