Sad news today as Joba Chamberlain has returned home to Nebraska after learning that his father, Harlan Chamberlain, has been hospitalized and is listed in critical condition, according to the Daily News. The newspaper reports that Joba spoke to his sister following Sunday night’s game at Fenway Park and broke into tears as manager Joe Girardi attempted to console him.
As many fans know, the elder Chamberlain was afflicted with polio as a child, has lost much of the use of the left side of his body as a result, and is confined to a motorized scooter.
Harlan raised Joba as a single dad.
