Prior to last night, Mets reliever Duaner Sanchez had not pitched in a major league game since July of 2006. Fans will recall (unless you’ve blocked in from your memory) that Duaner was lost to injury that season, separating his shoulder in a taxi accident, then breaking a bone in the same shoulder upon attempting to return to action in ‘07. Finally healthy, Sanchez returned to the Mets yesterday, pitching a scoreless ninth inning while recording a strikeout.

“I haven’t felt like this for about two years,” said Sanchez. “It feels like my first day in the big leagues. It’s pretty exciting right now. There are a lot of things going through my mind right now, but everything is just positive stuff.”

After the game, while talking to SNY’s Kevin Burkhardt, Sanchez expressed similar sentiments, struggling to contain his emotions.

Said David Wright: “Having Duaner back makes us feel whole.”

It makes Mets fans feel a whole lot better about their bullpen as well.
