We’ll see you when we see you, Pedro. That’s the approach that I’m taking when it comes to Pedro Martinez.
Earlier this week, Mets GM Omar Minaya tried to lower expectations for Pedro’s return, indicating that the team now does not expect to see Pedro until at least the middle of May and possibly as late as June. Now Pedro himself seems to be contradicting his GM’s statement.
“I am surprised with the way I am recovering. It’s going much faster than I thought. Everything is moving smoothly,” Martinez said. “The Mets know that I’m working and that I will not abandon them. I don’t want it to be a long wait like everybody thinks.”
Pedo claims that he’ll be back before the end of April, and bullpen coach Guy Conti confirmed that he’s been told that Pedro is two weeks ahead of schedule with his rehabilitation.
It all sounds great, but I’ll believe it when I see it. Certainly an April return for Pedro would stun a lot of people.
