Mets Rumors & News

Angel Pagan has been a savior for the Mets through the first three weeks of the season. His .317 average and 11 RBI’s are one of the main reasons the Mets find themselves at 10-6, atop the NL East. Pagan’s hot start to this young season also made it easy to forget about the teams starting left fielder, Moises Alou.

Alou, 41, had hernia surgery on March 6th, and has been recovering with a target of a late-April return. Two weeks ago Alou finally returned to the field and has been progressing at extended spring training. Today Alou made his most recent step in his quest to Flushing; a rehab start in Single A.

Alou started today for the St. Lucie Mets and was sharp. Alou batted third and for the first time played left field. Alou went 3 for 3 with a double as the St. Lucie Mets lost 10-5 to the Palm Beach Cardinals. After the game Alou was said to feel good, so everything seems to be positive.

While Alou still …

Arod Leaves Game With Quad Strain

Yankees Rumors & News

Alex Rodriguez left today’s game against the Baltimore Orioles in the top of the sixth inning with a strained right quadriceps.

Rodriguez injured the quad much the same way Derek Jeter did earlier in the year. He was trying to beat out a double-play and came up lame. There is no word on how series the injury is or how much time he is expected to miss. Jeter’s injury was to his left quad and he managed to stay off the disabled list and only missed six games.

Rodriguez was 1-for-3 with an RBI double before Morgan Ensberg came in to pinch run for him.

Second Guessing Suspensions and Awful Starts

Yankees Rumors & News

Kyle Farnsworth got hit with a three-game suspension yesterday by Major League Baseball. Why? Because he tried to hit Manny Ramirez after Manny hit two shots off of Mike Mussina that night. Last time I checked, that pitch didn’t hit Ramirez. If you want to discipline him then fine him, but three-game suspension? That’s crazy.

Since 2002 Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez have been plunked a total of 22 times, while Manny and David Ortiz have been hit a total of 3 times. We all know Joe Torre wasn’t one to get caught up in beanball wars, but you would have to think this ruling is a little questionable considering the pitch didn’t hit the Boston slugger. Joba Chamberlain threw behind Kevin Youkillis and got suspended. That was ok beacuse Joba threw at Youk twice…there’s no way the ball slipped out of his hand on two straight pitches.

Now here’s how bizarre this suspension is…even Manny himself is questioning the suspension! Yes, you read that right. Manny Ramirez said the suspension is …

Holy Cow! Yankees Prepare For Pope

Yankees Rumors & News

The Yankees are on the road playing the Orioles in Baltimore because the pope will be holding mass at Yankee Stadium today and that is just fine with the bombers’ skipper.

“You’d like to be home a little bit more,” said manager Joe Girardi. “But who’s going to argue with the pope? No, not me.”

When Pope Benedict XVI holds mass at the stadium today it will be the third time a pope has done that in the history of the stadium. The first time a pope ever held mass there it was in 1965 when Pope Paul VI did it and the and Pope John Paul II held mass there in 1979 as well.

In preparation for the pope’s arrival the Yankees’ staff removed gear from the home and visitors clubhouses as well as an auxillary clubhouse and the umpire’s room according to chief operating officer Lonn Trost.

The field will also need to be prepared as the Vatican’s colors will adorn the pitchers mound and an alter will …
