Jets Finally Trade Robertson

Jets Rumors & News

Nearly two months after an aborted deal that would have seen Jets DT Dewayne Robertson shipped to Cincinnati, the team has finally found a home for their former fourth overall pick, who became expendable following the acquisition of Kris Jenkins.

Robertson is headed to the Denver Broncos and the Jets will receive a conditional 2009 draft choice dependent upon Robertson’s playing time in Denver.

Had the Jets not been able to deal Robertson, he likely would have been cut in June. He was due a $3 million bonus in June and has salary cap number of about $11 million for this season. Robertson, 26, was the No. 4 overall draft pick in the 2003 draft out of Kentucky. He had 57 tackles for the Jets last season.

Now that Robertson’s gargantuan contract is off the books, could this free up some money for disgruntled Tight End Chris Baker?

Pacman to be a Cowboy — and I think that’s just fine

Giants Rumors & News

Pacman Jones is going to be a Dallas Cowboy — if Roger Goodell lets him back in the league, that is.

That is as good a reason as any to take a break from all my poetry/songwriting — and Giants discussion — and look at what is happening around the league as the draft approaches.

As for the Cowboys, owner Jerry Jones is continuing to turn his team into the old-time Oakland Raiders — a halfway house for misfits.

He’s got T.O. He’s got Tony ‘Jetsetter’ Romo, who might be more interested in getting a ring for Jessica than one for his team. Now he’s got Pacman, the baddest of the league’s bad boys. He’s got a lame-duck coach in Wade Phillips, whose anointed successor is already on his staff.

Good luck controlling that mob, Wade! Jones has collected a ton of talent, but the Cowboys are still a mess — a ticking time bomb waiting to implode. As Giants fans, I suspect we will enjoy the show.

Of course, over at …

Hughes Looks To Turn Around Season

Yankees Rumors & News

Phil Hughes takes the mound for the Yankees tonight and hopes to change his fortune around as his team goes for their first sweep of the season.

Hughes is starting against the White Sox for the first time in his career and coming into tonight’s game he insists he has not lost his confidence after his poor start.

“If I did that would be really bad because of how early it is,” said Hughes. “I don’t look at it like that after a couple of bad starts.”

In four appearances this season Hughes is 0-3 with a 8.82 ERA. In his last outing he gave up just one run through the first five innings before being apart of a seven run sixth inning against the Orioles.

“Stats fluctuate so much early on,” Hughes said. “I have to pitch well and things will take care of themselves. When I was in Trenton a couple years ago, my ERA was about 11 after three starts and things turned out …

Breakfast time again? Ah, decisions, decisions

Back for another ‘Breakfast at the Hot Stove’? Well, c’mon on in, sit down, pour yourself some coffee and get ready to go. We’ve got stuff to talk about this morning.

Waffles: Always a good choice when you aren’t sure what to have

The NFL Draft is close enough to smell it now, and that means there are all sorts of rumors cluttering up bandwidth on the Inter-Google. The hometown Jets and Giants are involved in plenty of ’em.

Giants’ rumors are swirling around the status of the mercurial tight end, Jeremy Shockey? Will they Giants trade him? Will they keep him? Who actually WANTS a mouthy, often-injured guy coming off a broken leg? And will anybody offer enough to make moving him worthwhile.

I took a stab at summing up the situation with a poem over at Big Blue View, my Giants’ site. Check it out. Oh, and let me know what you think of the shiny new platform being unveiled on the site today.

As for the Jets, there is talk …
