Breakfast time again? Ah, decisions, decisions
Back for another ‘Breakfast at the Hot Stove’? Well, c’mon on in, sit down, pour yourself some coffee and get ready to go. We’ve got stuff to talk about this morning.
Waffles: Always a good choice when you aren’t sure what to have
The NFL Draft is close enough to smell it now, and that means there are all sorts of rumors cluttering up bandwidth on the Inter-Google. The hometown Jets and Giants are involved in plenty of ‘em.
Giants’ rumors are swirling around the status of the mercurial tight end, Jeremy Shockey? Will they Giants trade him? Will they keep him? Who actually WANTS a mouthy, often-injured guy coming off a broken leg? And will anybody offer enough to make moving him worthwhile.
I took a stab at summing up the situation with a poem over at Big Blue View, my Giants’ site. Check it out. Oh, and let me know what you think of the shiny new platform being unveiled on the site today.
As for the Jets, there is talk about Boston College QB Matt Ryan (I’m sure it thrills Kellen Clemens). There is talk about Darren McFadden. Fact is, Gang Green was 4-12 last season and they know they need help almost everywhere.
Perusing the menu: Knicks’ choice on the Mark?
Frank Isola of the Daily News says Mark Jackson is the clear front-runner to become head coach of the Knicks. Good choice? Bad choice? Charles Oakley says bad choice.
Charles Oakley? Is he part of management? Does he have a say? Does anybody really care what he has to say? Unless you can still haul down 10 rebounds a night go away there, big fella!
Geritol: Hurray for the old guys!
Mike Mussina and Johnny Damon are showing they still have a little gas in the tank. Mussina allowed two solo home runs in 7 strong innings — easily his best work of the season — in a 6-4 win over Chicago. Damon got two hits, and has gone 8-for 21 with two home runs, a double and 7 RBI in his last three games.
Johan Santana and the Mets beat the Nationals last night. Big deal. Johan is supposed to do that. How, though, did he give up two hits to Wil Nieves? Yes, that Wil Nieves.
