Kenny Smith To Interview For GM Position, Find New Tailor

kenny_smith.jpgSo far, while Knicks president Donnie Walsh has proven true to his word and fairly accessible to the local media, he nonetheless continues to play things close to the vest. However, the more you read, the more likely it seems that in addition to a new head coach, the team will be adding a new general manager as well. There had been a question of whether or not Walsh would operate in the capacity of president and GM, or bring in outside help.

While current GM Glen Grunwald remains a candidate for the job, the Daily News reports that Queens-native, TNT/MSG analyst, and former member of the 1994 and 1995 NBA Champion Houston Rockets Kenny Smith has tossed his hat into a ring that already includes former Sixers GM Billy King and Sonics GM Rick Sund.

Smith had long been a villain in Knicks lore, despite his N.Y. roots, due to his role in foiling the Championship aspirations of Patrick Ewing’s ‘94 Knicks. That perception of Smith has changed somewhat over the last couple of years due to his involvement with Knicks telecasts on MSG Network.

Best known for yucking it up Charles Barkley and wearing suits that are way to big for him, Smith has no prior front-office experience.
