Joba Drools!
“Stunned disbelief” is how the Daily News’ Mark Feinsand described the Yankee Stadium crowd last night following David Dellucci’s 3-run homer off Joba Chamberlain in the 8th inning of the Yanks’ 5-3 loss.
On his blog, Feinsand goes on to chide the Yankee fan for their reaction, writing that Joba should be allowed the same growing pains as Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy. Well clearly, Mark, but if you’re telling me there wasn’t some stunned disbelief in the press box last night, you’re full of it.
Consider these stats, courtesy of the Journal News’ Peter Abraham:
* He had given up three earned runs in his career (36.1 innings) previously.* The last time he walked two batters in an inning was in his debut last August when he was trying to throw the ball through a brick wall in Toronto.
* It was only the second homer he has ever allowed.
* It was the first run he has allowed at Yankee Stadium in 14 appearances.
* It was the second time in 31 appearances he walked the leadoff hitter.
